A MUST have an oval cut diamond engagement ring!

This is why…

If the oval cut diamond engagement ring was a boy in school, he would be the most popular in the class right now! The popularity of ovals has grown exponentially over the last year. With all the designer announcements lately, it seems you can’t help but dream about ovals. Women around the world, hoping to be asked the question soon, have dropped not-so-subtle hints about their future engagement. Why the growing trend? Let’s learn a few things about the oval cut diamond…

THE HISTORY OF THE OVAL CUT DIAMOND

How do you get into the International Jewelers Hall of Fame? One way that worked for Lazare Kaplan was to invent the oval cut diamond. The ability to cut diamonds was passed down from generation to generation in his family. In fact, it was his uncle, Abraham Tolkowsky, who introduced the Ideal Cut diamond, the pinnacle of all cuts. Kaplan figured out how to take a rough diamond that was otherwise thought to be worthless, and through his carving technique, he was able to remove the blemishes, making many of the individual pieces flawless. While he was practicing this, he introduced the modern version we know as the impressive oval cut.

THE ADVANTAGES OF AN OVAL CUT DIAMOND

What is it that most of us want in everything we buy? More value for our money… or in the case of diamonds… more value for our money, right? Well, the Oval offers exactly that. The average 1 carat oval diamond has a 10% larger surface area than the average 1 carat round diamond. In the industry, this is known as “spready.” So by default, ovals appear to be larger at the same carat weight.

Another great advantage of oval cut diamonds is the price. You can get the incredible advantage of looking larger than a round cut diamond and paying less than you would for one of comparable carat weight. Who wouldn’t love that?

For the woman with shorter fingers, an oval diamond engagement ring provides an elegant visual illusion that makes her fingers appear elongated. Quite a bonus when it comes time for those close-ups of the ring to announce her engagement!

ADDED STYLING ADVANTAGES

If solitaire isn’t your thing, or if you were still thinking about the “more flash bang for your buck” concept I mentioned earlier, consider this: the halo! It’s not just for angels anymore! Ovals look amazing with a halo. Think of Princess Di’s oval sapphire with that stunning halo that complements her glory. Halos can make her center diamond look, on average, about a half-carat larger. Yes please!

You should definitely create your own oval cut engagement ring to have this beautiful creation on your finger now!
