Dreaming of a better India through the eyes of our children

India, the world’s second most populous democracy in South Asia. From the 4th century to the 6th century, it was a golden age of India for its great achievements in the field of mathematics, astronomy, philosophy, religion, science and medicine. Every foreigner was interested in seeing the culture, education, economy, etc. from India. At that time.

Now the year is 2016. Almost 1500 years have passed. We expect at least some developments or improvements every year. There is a difference of 1500 years between then and now. Today India should lead the world. But India’s current position in any field is not acceptable except some areas.

We shouldn’t worry about what the reason was, but we should worry about how to get the glory back. The solution is only human development. But how can it be possible, what has not become possible for hundreds of years?

We just have to align our mindset towards development. But it is very difficult to change the mentality of an adult person. Only we can build a mindset in our children. I don’t think any father in India teaches his children to “help others”. When a student comes home from school, every parent asks, “Beta! How was your test? How much did you get?” Everyone thinks that their son/daughter should secure the 1st rank in their class. No one asks, “Have you helped your friends today? Or been involved in any social activities?” We are teaching them that he or she should think only of himself, not worry about anyone.

Do not do that. Education is not bookish knowledge. Health is not rank in competitive exams. India ranks 130th in the Human Development Index (HDI) out of 188 countries in the world. Because? If we are so concerned about our education, knowledge, health, income, then India should secure the top spot. We only blame our politicians that they are not doing their job the right way. But think that they are also a selected man from our community. If my son is elected as Chief Minister or Prime Minister, he too will do what the politicians are doing. Human development is only possible when each citizen assumes the responsibility of his country towards development. Social service, equal opportunities, the creation and/or retention of jobs can generate human development.

Change your thought process. Teach your student “Don’t look for a job, create a job.” Teach your child “Don’t just worry about your personal health, worry about the health of your community.” “Don’t just think about your personal economic growth, think about the economic growth of your community.”

Don’t measure your children’s success by how they rank on competitive tests, measure their success by how much they have done something for others. Teach your child, “learn to give.” When this generation comes, I believe that 50% of the problems related to social development will be solved.
