Ways to improve your relationship that will make your garden grow

Life is busy, and taking the time to keep your relationship strong can sometimes be one of those priorities that fades into the background and ends up being completely forgotten about. It’s not a big deal, is it? You guys love each other after all!! But keep neglecting your relationship and you will find that it is like a garden that has not been tended, weeded, or watered. It starts to look shabby and unloved, and that’s the way the two of you might end up feeling too. Making time for your relationship just takes a bit of planning, and if you do it right, you both can end up feeling so much better about yourself and each other, and you may even accomplish some wonderful things along the way! Here are some of our favorite ways to “tend your yard.”

• Have a “date night” again.

Remember when you two first got together and all you did was make plans? Sometimes it was a movie, sometimes a concert or pizza, but you always had something to look forward to. Everyone lives for the weekend, but there’s something about going on a date that makes it so much more fun. Well, time to start asking yourself out again! Maybe they can take turns, every other weekend; maybe you want to make it a surprise, or do a series of themed dates like going out to eat a different ethnic food that is new to both of you every weekend, but take some time to be together, looking forward to being together and having something to remember together.

• Start exercising together.

You don’t have to be a marathon runner or climb a mountain, but there’s a lot to be said for getting out and exercising together, or even just walking the dog. Once you’ve turned a task like exercising into time you can share together, the dynamics change completely. You’ll enjoy your workout so much more, and you’ll be amazed at how sexy your partner can look when they’re in a healthy glow!

• Participate in a charity together.

Whether you’re volunteering at your local animal shelter, at a soup kitchen, or reading to children at the library, doing good deeds together gives you something tangible that you’re accomplishing for your community, and you’re doing it together. It’s a great way to celebrate your shared values.
