How to become a good role model

Models are like walking mannequins. A model is employed by various fashion names and advertisers to promote their products. The products are displayed and advertised on the models. Models also make appearances at dance, performance or any kind of public event.

The basic job of a model is to make their images look good visually and not express themselves verbally like actors do, which is a common misunderstanding. Models are of different types depending on the type of modeling they do. There are glamor models, fashion or bikini models, fine art or body part models. Character models represent the common man in print ads and they don’t need to be beautiful.

Many models today undergo cosmetic surgery to change their appearance. Supermodels are at a higher level than models and are highly paid professionals. These models are known as cover girls as they very frequently appear on the covers of major magazines.

Many people want to become a model because it leads to a very glamorous and productive life. However, this part of the business is very competitive and often ends up breaking you rather than making you famous. Here are some steps on how to become a model:

• The first step to becoming a model is to first realize that you have the qualities necessary to become the type of model you want to be. The basic things required for this profession are fair skin, good hair, and good overall symmetry. Height and weight depend on the type of model you want to become. You can work with trainers who have a good reputation and experience with models. Tell them that you like being a model and how you want your body to look.
• Anyone can be a model, but if you don’t meet certain requirements, the job you will be given will be very limited.
• After you’ve selected the type of model you want to become, have a good photographer do your portfolio. Images do not need to be professional; they should only show your ability as a model. This does not mean that you give the agencies unfocused photos of you with your friends. You will need at least one shot to the head and one to the body. Print some of your best photos in 8x10s. Take them with you wherever you go as you might need them. It is better to have it done by a professional, although it can cost a lot. This will give you a good idea of what kind of look you project. You’ll eventually need those photos for an interview, so think of it as an investment.
• Search for renowned modeling agencies. You can find them in the phone book for your area or even on the Internet. Make an appointment with these agencies.
• For the interview you may be asked to show certain faces such as laughing, sad or happy. Practice them in front of the mirror beforehand. Look at different models in magazines for reference. You may also get a Polaroid taken so be prepared as you will only get one shot at this. This is used to compare your headshot. They will also ask you to walk and give you your measurements.
• Throughout the process, be courteous and always be on time for appointments. News spreads fast in this business, so be careful what you say and do.
• It is very important to be organized as you may be called at the last minute or even busy 24/7.
• Confirm whether there is a makeup artist available on site or not. Most of the time there will be, but there may be times when you will need to do your own makeup. At such times, it is better to put on makeup before arriving at the site.
• Don’t lie about your measurements. If you lie about being skinnier than you are, you will eventually be found out because the stylist will be in trouble.
• Treat modeling like your real job. If you are not serious in this business, there is little chance to be successful in this profession.
