Bollywood on a roll like "3 idiots" Beats "Avatar"
Speaking of matchups, this was the mother of all matchups. Can you think that any director can be a challenge for James Cameroon? Well, it’s the dawn of the new head called Bollywood. To be more precise, Raju Hirani has done the impossible.
3 idiots have done what no one had thought of. Before Avatar was released, everyone couldn’t stop blabbing about the movie and the accolades it had achieved for James Cameroon, next-gen animation, and whatnot. But, now people only talk about 3 Idiots, which had no special effects, nor James Cameroon nor the cost that Avatar had. Yeah! However, the movie had Aamir Khan! What can be said about Mr. Perfectionist? Every time you throw him out, he does something supernatural to get back on the charts.
Avatar was based on science fiction, while 3 Idiots was based on the lives and struggles of young people (English students). Let’s take nothing away from ace Hollywood director James Cameroon. Avatar is an amazing movie with amazing graphics and special effects. It is truly a visual treat for all ages, especially children. But, what the movie lacked is the raw emotion that 3 Idiots had. This is also a fundamental distinction between Hollywood and Bollywood. Bollywood movies tend to touch our lives in one way or another. One of those movies is 3 Idiots. Avatar was something he cherished, no doubt. But it barely related to the humans living in today’s world, whereas 3 Idiots had something for everyone.
No one could have imagined that a Bollywood movie can outperform a big Hollywood movie. But, on another occasion, Bollywood has shown its strength and caliber to make good movies and left Hollywood’s most expensive film, Avatar, baffled.
It turns out that Rajkumar Hirani’s 3 Idiots has outgrossed and surpassed James Cameron’s ‘Avatar’ at the UK box office! Just imagine a $1.2 billion (and still counting) phenomenon called ‘Avatar’ getting trampled by a Bollywood movie with a budget of Rs 35 crores!
3 Idiots retains its position in the UK Top Ten after raking in more money than Avatar on its first day of release. This Bollywood film has become the highest grossing Bollywood film in the UK, surpassing Shahrukh Khan’s 2008 film ‘Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi’ and even ‘Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna’. It has broken records for Indian films in the US, Australia, South Africa, Pakistan, Fiji and Kenya.
Bollywood has beaten Hollywood for the first time and that’s not for an ordinary movie either. 3 Idiots has really done the entire Bollywood film fraternity proud. Bollywood has once again proven that they have what it takes to make amazing and innovative movies! What is the need of the hour for Bollywood right now?
We need more movies like 3 Idiots which can raise the level of Bollywood and create a whole new level for movies. We need to draw a line of superiority when it comes to world movies. A few more years and Bollywood will be face to face with Hollywood, and the credit will go to our great filmmakers!
