Inevitably, we are constantly surrounded by people who know what is best for us. Our parents tell us that we should make our decisions based on what we learned in school. Our friends tell us to base our decisions on what we learned from the latest and greatest infomercial. Finally, our financial advisors advise us on how to invest money based on their opinion, even if the opinion is not in our best interest.
So who do we listen to?
It’s very simple actually!
Listen to those who have done what you want so much!
If you want to be a successful guitarist, don’t follow the guy at the bar who “knows” what you have to do to be successful.
Learn from people like Eddie Van Halen. He has been successful as a guitarist and if that’s what you want to do, why else learn from someone else?
Check out their videos. Learn his riffs. Read his interviews.
If you want to be a successful chef, don’t follow the guy who makes great burgers in his backyard. Let’s face it, just about anyone can make a better burger than McDonald’s. Learn from people like Wolfgang Puck. You have become a successful chef and if a chef is what you want to be, why else learn from someone else?
Watch their TV shows. Cook using your recipes. Get tips from their websites or other sources.
Now, if you want to get rich, don’t follow your family and friends, unless they have achieved wealth. We’ve all heard the saying “If you want to fly like eagles, stop hanging around with turkeys!” I’m not saying your family or friends are turkeys.
What I am suggesting is that you look at what your goals and desires are and learn from the people who can most get you there. If that’s your family, great. Learn from them. If not, find successful “eagles” and start learning their ways of thinking. Start watching their videos. Learn their techniques. Read his interviews. Look at their programs. Use your recipes. Get tips from their websites and other places.
Your dreams won’t wait for you to get there.
You have to go out and find them!
