Waterfalls in Kerala
The scenic beauty and abundance of hills and mountains make the state of Kerala a very picturesque vacation spot. Large and small waterfalls tumbling down the mountainside mask the forests of the Western Ghats and add to the beauty of nature. Considering God’s own country, the waterfalls seem like a blessing from nature sent directly from above and literally. Tusharagiri, Athirapally, Palaruvi and Vazhachal are among the most important waterfalls in the state and attract many tourists. It is best to visit these waterfalls during or after the monsoons and in winter.

Athirapally waterfalls:- Located about 78 km from Kochi, Athirapally waterfall is located at the gateway to the Sholayar ranges. At an elevation of 80 feet, it is known to be very popular with hikers and is best visited between 8am and 6pm. In a wooded place, the waterfall meets the Chalakkudy river after its fall. Keeping track of the release of water to the Poringal Dam will also allow you to see the waterfall bloom. The best way to reach Athirapally Falls is to fly into Cochin International Airport, located at Nedumbassery, then take NH 47 to Chalakudy Junction.

Vazhachal waterfalls:- A beautiful site offering a very picturesque view, Vazhachal is very close to Athirapally. Even this waterfall falls into the Chalakkudy River and is located in the heart of the dense green forests. Deep in the green forest of Sholayar, travelers will enjoy cool misty waters with rocky terrain as a backdrop. The waterfall is at a distance from Vazachal very close to Thrissur.

soharagiri falls:- Found in the Western Ghats, the Whichharagiri waterfalls are seen plummeting down the snow-capped mountains. In the context of the ghats, the waterfalls are created by the diversion of the Chalippuzha River. It includes three waterfalls, the highest of which is Thenpara which descends from an altitude of around 75 meters. Approximately 11 km from Kodechery, the falls are easily accessible both by air and by road. Take a flight to Karipur International Airport in Calicut or travel 52 km from Kozhikode via Kunnamangalam and Thamarassery. By train, visitors will have to travel 60 km from the Kozhikode railway station. The vicinity of the waterfall is more popular for hiking.

Palaruvi waterfalls:- Also known as the ‘milk stream’, these waterfalls are located at a distance of approximately 75 km from Kollam. With the remains of legendary temples all around, the water that gushes from these waterfalls is said to have medicinal value. The best time to visit these waterfalls is between June and January. Kollam is the nearest railway station to reach the airport and the nearest airport is Thiruvananthapuram International Airport.
