The best movie picks for Halloween

In October you will notice that several TV networks sponsor scary movie marathons. This is quite appropriate in the month of Halloween. Pop some popcorn and kick back to watch some spooky movies. Read on for some spooky movie recommendations to experience…not only, of course!

1.Halloween. The first in the series is the 1978 release starring Jamie Lee Curtis. This story gives birth to the character of Michael Myers and relies on buildup and tension to keep us hooked, rather than a lame slasher approach. There’s no need to waste time on sequels, unless you have a compulsion to complete. They just don’t compare. This movie is often mentioned favorably by critics, because Jamie Lee’s character is atypical in not just running around screaming uselessly throughout the entire movie; she gets to have a brain, and a smart one at that. Halloween is my best option to enjoy the pleasure of seeing something creepy.

2. Poltergeists. This film released in 1982 and starred Craig T. Nelson and JoBeth Williams. Craig’s character is a real estate developer and he and his family live in one of the subdivision phases. Strange things start happening, chairs moving, creepy spirits floating down the stairs, a ravenous closet that likes to suck up everything in the next bedroom, a scary clown doll… oh, etc. etc. Carol Anne, the couple’s youngest daughter, disappears into another dimension but communicates through a blurry television channel. The special effects in this movie are amazing, even now with greater effects capabilities available. Paranormal experts try to save the day. Poltergeist is one of my top picks to enjoy this month.

3. The Omen, 1976. This film is a masterful suspense thriller. Gregory Peck and Lee Remick play Damien’s parents, who has big shoes to fill as the Antichrist. My God, what a sweet girl to be responsible for such evil. The theme music is enough to scare even the bravest viewer, and it offers more: an excellent story that I certainly hope never really happens…

4. Rosemary’s baby. It was released in 1968 and now it looks a bit dated, especially for the fashion, but don’t let that put you off. Rosemary’s Baby stars Mia Farrow, John Cassavetes and Ruth Gordon. It’s directed by Roman Polanski, which should be enough to scare anyone who remembers the link to Charles Manson. This movie is one of my favorites. Here too there are some ingredients of the Antichrist. Listen to the haunting lullaby once and you will never forget it.
