New and improved iPhone 5 coming soon

No one really has any idea what the next iPhone has in store for us. Let’s get to it, Apple may not yet have a well-defined number of everything. Honestly, we won’t know until Tim Cook takes the stand this summer or fall. Considering we’re still a couple of months away from the iPad 3 announcement, that’s a bit early to worry about the next iPhone.

We’ve compiled a comprehensive rundown of some of the iPhone 5 specs we might see sooner or later, based on the rumors going around. The features that landed in each category are not remotely linked definitively, but there are conflicting leaks, so decisions had to be made. However, let’s take a look at the iPhone 5 features that we might relish whenever Apple decides to release the iPhone 5.

Screen size

If Apple issues another three-and-a-half-inch display, this one is simple: It’ll have the same 960×640 resolution. Trying to double the resolution of the current Retina display would be overkill and not exactly cost-effective.

However, if the screen explodes, it will be interesting to find out what Apple does. A bigger screen for Apple would be very interesting. Steve Jobs was in the audience for not wanting a bigger screen, as he thought it represented much of Android. It would be easier for developers to keep the same 960×640 resolution, but this would reduce the pixel density of the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S. There haven’t been many leaks about this, so let’s just say Apple ups the resolution a bit, to 1080×720. At 4 inches, that would give you a pixel density of 325, only slightly lower than the iPhone 4/4S’s 330, plus it would retain the aspect ratio that the iPhone has always used.

This one is simple: if the iPhone Five is not thinner than the iPhone 4/4S. It would be a shame to think that Apple didn’t slim down, as many Android phones are already much thinner than the iPhone 4 S. High-end Android phones like the Droid RZR and Google Nexus are already thinner than the iPhone. I can’t understand the organization that made the MacBook Air go into the alternate generation without putting out a ridiculously thin iPhone.

For the concern of having a solid image for our fantasy idea, let’s assume it will have a density of seven mm, a hair thinner than the first Android Razr.

start button

Why ask about the home button, when it’s been virtually identical on every iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch? There have been several leaks that Apple will change it for the future iPhone.

Previous leaks suggested that Apple will implement a larger home button on the iPhone 5 that doubles as a trackpad for finger movements. Other leaks have said that Apple will ditch the tangible button altogether and opt for a Droid ICS-like on-screen button instead.

Like this concept edition we’re viewing, we’ve opted for a capacitive home button. The respectable bet, however, would be for the home button to stay the same, but we’ve seen enough buzz that the change is worth integrating.
