Fourth of July at Joe Pool Lake, Texas
For several years, the city of Grand Prairie, TX has been putting on a wonderful 4th of July fireworks show at Joe Pool Lake. The tradition is enjoyed by many people, judging by the crowds it draws year after year. There are a number of things you can plan to do to make your fireworks viewing experience a memorable and relaxing one.
Arrives early
Lynn Creek Park is the designated park for viewing the fireworks display. Pyrotechnics are fired from the shoreline of the park. Your best bet for finding a good spot is to get there early. Bring a picnic with you and some chairs and/or a blanket. Once you arrive, you can claim a picnic table, but if not, find a place to put your chairs. Since it’s a special event, Grand Prairie charges a little extra for park admission that day. It is $15 per vehicle. This can include 6 people. If there are more, each additional person costs $2 more.
Camping in other parks
You can’t camp in Lynn Creek Park, but you can in Cedar Hill State Park and Loyd Park. You could camp and watch the fireworks from these other places. The crowds won’t be as big and you won’t need to go anywhere when they’re done. You won’t get the great view that you will from Lynn Creek Park. But if you don’t want to sit in traffic once the fireworks are over, this might be a good option for you. Just be sure to make your camping reservations well in advance of the fourth day.

Cedar Hill State Park usually hosts an independence celebration within the park. The events they have may include music, readings, and history talks. Your 4th of July celebration is meant to be a family event, so it’s a great place to bring the kids.
Joe Pool Lake’s three parks have many great amenities and things to do. You can walk, bike, swim, fish, and enjoy water sports (sailing, jet skiing, and kayaking). There are also many natural or semi-natural areas that are home to a wide variety of plants and animals. The lake parks are visited by many bird watchers as there are very few of some of the special coastal habitats that can be found here.
One not that you need to be aware of. Alcohol is not allowed in the state park and Lynn Creek Park does not allow glass containers. Be careful, be considerate, and make sure you have a designated driver if you plan on having a few drinks as part of your 4th of July celebration. Enjoy Lake Joe Pool!
