A healthy and balanced nutritious diet is a must to grow tall. Children should eat nutritious foods during their growing years to avoid stunting. Adults can also add a few inches to their height long after their growth spurt is over by eating right.

Protein-rich foods and foods rich in vitamins and minerals make you grow taller. Proteins made up of amino acids that contain enzymes, hormones and antibodies that stimulate the growth and effective functioning of the human body. Whole eggs, fish, milk, and vegetables are a high-protein diet. Some foods reduce the activity of human growth hormones that make you taller. Therefore, these foods must be excluded from your diet. These foods include carbohydrates and fats. Carbohydrate-rich foods such as cereals, bread, and rice hinder growth. Europeans consume more protein in their diet than carbohydrates and are therefore taller than Asians who eat high-carbohydrate foods.

Meats contain many lipids and saturated fats that stunt growth. So don’t eat too much meat. If you are eating non-vegetarian food, opt for lean red meats, fish livers, or shellfish such as long-bone pink salmon, blue crabs, rainbow trout, and clams that are low in fat. Avoid cakes, candies, soft drinks, and crisps that are high in fat. Alcohol, drugs, and tobacco can also stunt growth.

Calcium is a prerequisite for healthy bone growth. Therefore, foods rich in calcium such as milk and other dairy products such as yogurt and cheese must necessarily be part of your diet. Leafy vegetables are another source of calcium.

Citrus fruits like oranges and lemons are rich in vitamin C which promotes calcium absorption and thus results in bone growth.

Other foods that make you grow are whole grains, vegetables, fruits, dry beans like nigari, cowpeas and soybeans. Drinking plenty of water helps you gain height by promoting muscle growth. Whey protein and boiled chicken can also help. Therefore, including height-enhancing foods in your diet is very important for full growth mentally and physically.
