Famous holiday destinations in Mauritius

Mauritius is one of the most popular vacation destinations in the world, both for family vacations and honeymooners. Mauritius is located on the east coast of the African continent which consists of three islands in the Indian Ocean. The splendid beauty of Mauritius combines white sandy beaches, picturesque mountains and green sugarcane plantations, tropical forests. Its year-round temperate climate and multicultural heritage attract tourists from all over the world.

Port Louis- is the main port and capital city of Mauritius. Surrounded by a mountain range, called Port Louis Moka Range, makes the city one of the picturesque cities on the world map. The main attractions of Port Louis include:

Chamarel Park – Land of 7 Colors and Chamarel Falls – The “land of seven colors”. This is the only place in the world where the dunes of 7 colors come together in one place. The unique dunes are red, brown, violet, green, blue, purple and yellow color with a predominance of violet and red.

Black River Gorges National Park: It is a national park located in the mountainous southwestern part of the country and is very popular among Mauritius holiday destinations. The park is home to many species of wild animals and birds.

Casa Criolla Euroka – A unique Creole house surrounded by the Moka River and the waterfalls of the Moka Mountain Range.

Gabriel Island – This is a famous island located near Round Island and Flat Island, in the far north of Mauritius.

Île aux Cerfs Island: The famous deer island is located in the Flacq district, near the east coast. The sandy beaches and the beautiful lagoon make it an attractive tourist destination.

Souillac – Here the gentle curves of the north coast and the high cliffs that drop abruptly into the sea. The Telfair Garden is the place that attracts the most tourists in Souillac.

Mahebourg: The main fishing centers of Mauritius located in the bay of Grand Port. The Naval Museum in the French colonial mansion, is the most popular place in this port.

Ile aux Aigrettes – Ile aux Aigrettes: a small coral island off the coast of the city of Mahebourg is a nature conservation site preserved by the Mauritius Wildlife Foundation. The island is home to the rarest birds in the world, the kestrel, the pink dove. The extremely rare Phelsuma Green Gecko and the Aldabra Giant Tortoise can also be seen here.

Grand Bassin – A lake situated in an isolated mountainous area in the Savanne district is very popular among Mauritius’ top holiday destinations. The Grand Bassin is a sacred lake of the Hindu community in Mauritius as they make a pilgrimage every year on Maha Sivaratri / “The great night of Siva”.

Mauritius Botanical Garden – The botanical garden is also known as Pamplemonsses Garden and SSR Botanical Garden. Located near Port Louis, Pamplemonsses is the oldest botanical garden in the southern hemisphere. Giant water lilies, 85 varieties of palm trees and spice garden and unique tourist destination in Mauritius.

Chamarel waterfalls, Alexandra waterfalls, Tamarind waterfalls, Rochester waterfalls and Exil waterfalls are some famous waterfalls that make Mauritius one of the most attractive tourist destinations on the world map.
