Doom Forge Preview – Dawn of Legends

After playing Little Warrior, I wasn’t really satisfied with fighting games on Facebook, so I continued my search until I found Doom Forge: Dawn of Legends, which is still under development by Xenao Games. This is a true 3D fighting game that is still in its alpha stage (not completed yet).

how to play
The game takes a long time to load the first time and due to the amount of graphics that are included in this game it is not surprising at all. Once the game loads, players will be presented with the character selection screen.

For now, due to the Alpha testing stage, all players can only choose a male character. From there you will name your character (Please put something that sounds scary or macho and not something like Pinky). After naming your character, the customization screen will appear. The customization screen is very well done. It allows you to customize the type of fighter you want to be.

After customization, the instruction will kick in, and it’s actually pretty straightforward. Doom Forge tells players that this game is still in development, the bugs they fixed so far, and also the game itself, all on 1 page. I have to give the developers credit for that.

After the tutorial page, you will enter the main menu interface. Here you can play with all the available options.

Fighting in the arena is limited by the amount of energy you have. A full energy bar allows you to focus on at least 4-5 matches before needing to recharge. There is good news though, as the recharge rate is very fast, about 1 minute per energy, so you don’t really have to wait long in the game.

After playing around with the menu a bit, I decided to start the fight. Clicking on Arena will take you to the Arena options; this is where you can start a battle with 1 of 3 opponents. Knowing that everyone is just a beginner, there is usually no problem here (trust me, you rarely lose).

When the fight begins, the game will automatically take control. The game itself makes the cut, all you have to do is focus on the skill set at the bottom of the screen. Click on it and launch a powerful attack or counterattack on your opponent. This ability is very useful as it will determine the outcome of your battle. Abilities are charged with rage, and the rage is stacked by taking or dealing damage to opponents. Once you have enough rage on your character, just press the abilities you want and unleash them on your opponents.

After the battle is over, the reward will be given to the winner. If you level up after a fight, you can also focus on where you want to put your skill points to use. This is a bit of the RPG element that is brought into the game and it is very well done.

Silver and gold are the main transaction currencies in this game. You can earn silver in battle and gold by inviting other Facebook friends to join your guild. With the currency, you can buy new armor, weapons, and even skills for the next battle. So far I couldn’t get any of the items as none of my friends still play this game. So all I can do for now is improve my skills to use in the next battle.

The game is very well done in a way that it’s not as boring as some of the fighting games on Facebook.

Graphic
This is the best part of Doom Forge. Players will be amazed at how this game is made as the character looks very detailed and the texture is done just right (I didn’t even think it was a flash game when I first loaded it up). During combat the animation is fluid and certain details such as blood splatter are even added. This is considered to be the best 3D graphic I have seen so far in any Facebook game and can be considered the best. Aside from the 3D parts, the menu design and art for the game is also well done.

Dream
There isn’t much comment on the music part, which I don’t remember hearing any. However, the sound of players getting hurt and groaning is well done.

conclusion
This is still in the testing period and I hope to see more content available once the game goes into Beta. I’ll be keeping a close eye on this game when it’s fully released.
