Are guitar hand exercises really necessary?

If you are learning to play the guitar, there are many things that you have to practice. I remember when I started playing guitar all I wanted to do was play my favorite song. The last thing he wanted to do was boring hand exercises. Don’t make the same mistake I did, hand exercises are one of the most important things to practice.

When I first started learning guitar, all I wanted to play was Van Halen’s 316. It is a solo acoustic number and very easy to play if you are a beginner. I remember how hard it was to get my fingers in the right chord positions, but I thought it would get easier with time.

Of course, things get easier very quickly when you play the guitar, but if you force yourself to do the boring manual exercises, you will become a very good guitar player, very quickly. I wasted several months before realizing that. Hand exercises are very boring to do, but it is something you should try and force yourself to do every day. Once I started to see the benefit of the exercises, I started doing them more and more.

My friend, on the other hand, never did his exercises, all he did was play his favorite songs. He said that he didn’t want to be a rapist and that he had no interest in doing it alone. I tried to explain to him that doing hand exercises isn’t about doing it alone, it’s about making your fingers more agile and being able to get them into the right position instantly.

My friend still plays the guitar, but his technique is so sloppy that it’s quite embarrassing. The only thing I gave all my students is hand exercises. They hate it, but I make them do it. It’s the fastest way to improve your guitar playing.
