10 celebrity birthday parties to choose from for your next party

Celebrity birthdays are expensive and a bit over the top. They may be events that most will not experience. Or will they? Here are 10 celebrity birthday parties and ideas on how to tweak them to make it a doable soiree for you and your own VIP guests.

Paris Hilton’s 21st birthday was celebrated with 5 parties. To lease? 5 different locations around the world and it costs $45,000 per person. This is how it sounds on your 21! A normal person can also have 5 parties in different places. However, this affordable version requires you to miss the plane ride between each location. Try a progressive dining experience at a restaurant. Make a list of your favorite/trendy/new hot spots. Then plan where to have your cocktail, amuse bouche, appetizer, main course, and finally dessert. It’s still luxurious but much more affordable than the Paris price.

Jessica Lowndes celebrated her 21st with a Moulin Rouge theme at the Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood. Her guests were dressed as 19th century chorus girls. There was a tarot card reader, a photo room, cupcakes throughout the suite, and a couple of monkeys wandering around. This is doable enough for us non-celebrities. Rent a suite if you can afford it but it’s not necessary. Transform your party area to reflect Moulin Rouge. Use a lot of red in your decorations. Use draped fabrics and pillows. Build a windmill out of craft paper and hang it on the wall. Look at the images and feel inspired. If you want to keep up the PG dress standard, take a look at Nicole Kidman’s wardrobe from the movie. Not everything is corsets and stockings. And eat a lot of red cupcakes.

Jay-Z had a Scarface theme for his 40th birthday…in the Dominican Republic. There was champagne and caviar. His parents were the guests of honor. To ensure that he was the center of attention, he performed Empire State of Mind. The grand finale of the night included a video messaging display, fireworks at midnight along with synchronized swimmers. But the celebration did not end there. The next day we saw a barbecue brunch and a yacht ride. Ready for your version at home? Well, you can still have champagne and caviar, but it’s probably on a smaller scale than Jay-Z’s catering bill. But surely you won’t have 400 guests either. You can also have your parents as guests of honor and I think that would be very special for them. Video messages can also be put together, but it would be ideal if your spouse or friend was in charge of that project. As for synchronized swimmers and fireworks, you may not want to invest in that on a grand scale. You can set off those little non-professional type fireworks. End the celebration with brunch the next day at your home, or if you know a good brunch spot, have your VIPs join you there.

Naomi Campbell spent nearly $2 million on friends’ flights to Dubai, where they enjoyed a 3-day celebration. Every day she had a different theme. There was the “hip hop” theme, the “all white” theme, and the “Brazilian samba” theme. I say you too can have a 3 day celebration. And that each day is also a theme. Make it her favorite color theme one day and have dinner at her favorite place. The next day it can also be a Brazilian samba theme and go dancing somewhere in your neighborhood that has samba music. Your last day can also be a hip hop theme and the end of your big party. Have your guests come dressed according to the theme, put on that music and dance until you drop.

Beyonce Knowles had her lavish party at The Darby restaurant in New York. It was full of white orchids and famous friends. Your homemade version? Many restaurants have a party room that you can reserve. You usually don’t have to pay to use the room, but you should call ahead to make sure you can reserve it. Also, filling it with flowers will be cheaper than filling an entire restaurant.

For Prince William’s 24th, Miss Middleton reportedly threw an “Arabian Nights” themed party. Surely you can have this theme at home. Turn your party space into Morocco. Use fabrics to decorate. Hang some from the ceiling that hang from the wall like a Bedouin tent. You don’t have to do the whole room if the fabric is expensive, just do the center of the room. Four sections of fabric can work. Check the Asian areas in your city as they will have cheaper fabric than your local chain fabric store. Put plenty of cushions on the floor to sit on. Be sure to use rich, warm colors. Have Middle Eastern dishes that include pitas with sauces, grapes, dried fruit, nuts, and a meat dish for guests to enjoy. Put a genie lamp on the refreshment table. Play authentic music in the background. And if you can, hire a belly dancer.

Katy Perry’s 25th was a big theme: “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.” Party guests had to wear white and left with neon paint splattered everywhere. There was candy and Oompah Loompahs everywhere. The entrance sparkled with bright colored lights. You too can have this party at home. Have your guests wear all white, but warn them that they could get paint stains. Have non-toxic neon paint. Mix it up a bit and have a drum where you can pour the paint into the tom-tom so that when the guests hit it, the paint splatters all over them. Rent a black light to add a great effect. Have candies and chocolates everywhere.

Britney Spears had a circus theme for her 27th birthday in New York. Her party had jugglers, a man on stilts, and carnival concessions. There were circus images projected on a screen outside. This is an easy theme that can be done at a house party. Finding circus themed decorations will be quite easy as it is popular. Consider hiring jugglers or stilt walkers. Set up carnival concessions like cotton candy, hot dogs, and popcorn. Make the circus images play in the background on your TV or computer screen. As the birthday woman/man, you get dibs to dress up as the emcee. Encourage your guests to dress up as lion tamers, trapeze artists, contortionists, etc. Also, organize some carnival games.

Justin Bieber ranks 16th in a more classic way with bowling, wrestling, pool fun, and lots of cake. You can rent sumo wrestling outfits which are a lot of fun to participate in. Start at the bowling alley, then head back to the party venue and have a few sumo matches and finish off by digging up some cake.

Christina Aguilera’s 28th was a “A Clockwork Orange” themed party. She was dressed in a bowler hat, overalls, and appropriate makeup. There were cotton candy mojitos and an orange birthday cake. Another idea that you can recreate at home. Go to your local costume store to build your wardrobe. Encourage guests to dress within the theme as well. Serve an orange cake too.

Your birthday event will be grand with any one of these budget-friendly celebrity parties.
