What does a payroll analyst do?

Payroll analysts have the most exciting careers of any payroll job. The payroll analyst is responsible for all kinds of important functions in any company. They process weekly or monthly payroll reports. They reconcile payroll accounts and correct errors. They process, balance, report, and distribute W-2 forms. They even create budget projections. They are responsible for surveying people’s salaries and preparing the reports for the senior management team. They prepare all periodic statistical, financial, and operational reports as required. They administer all payroll-related benefit programs for employees. They perform all internal audits of each payroll account. They even prepare the materials for all the external and internal auditors.

Senior senior analyst jobs may require some training and advice from payroll staff on certain procedures that need to be followed to assist with complex transactions. Some of these people may also serve as liaisons to different departments that work to resolve all payroll issues and correct errors that may arise within a larger organization.

In a large number of reported cases, the person who acts as the company’s payroll analyst and the departments that deal with monitoring and accounting will work closely with human resources. There are also many other responsibilities that an analyst must assume in any organization. These analysts are responsible for preparing correspondence and communication with other departments through the use of email. They are also in charge of monitoring the time cards of the different employees and making sure that each and every one of them gets paid when it corresponds to them. The analyst also assists the payroll clerks in handling all the small daily tasks that go along with that job. They also control and monitor the payroll processing of new hires. Finally, they maintain the entire payroll database that includes the entire base, benefits, and wages of all current company employees.

The real role of any good payroll analyst is to be the reconciler of the payroll accounts and to make sure that each and every account is accurately entered into the company’s accounting system computer system. Many of these analysts with payroll jobs are responsible for preparing payroll schedules and reports. Other analysts are only responsible for reviewing and analyzing documents to help auditors both internally and externally.

There are many requirements for people who want to become analysts. They typically have bachelor’s degrees in accounting and related fields. Most of them earn around $60,000 per year. They may work independently or they may work as part of an audit team.
