Was there more than one derivative of T-84?

The T-84 transmission was not only used in the WWII jeep. The jeep used the T-84J. transmission. Listed below are several (but not all) of the various vehicles that used a T-84. The T-84 transmission was also used in the WWII tracked vehicle called the Weasel. The Weasel came in two versions, one for land and one for amphibians. The Weasel was built by Studebaker and had a six-cylinder engine.

The T-84 gets a reputation for being a poor and weak transmission. You must be wondering why, when it was used in so many cars and trucks (and even a tracked vehicle!) For so long. If there was a better transmission, he thinks the manufacturers would have used it.
