Review of “The Game” by Neil Strauss

A story about a guy who knows next to nothing about girls, then not only does he meet a secret society of pick-up artists who teach him how to mark a bunch of beautiful women, but he also becomes THE master pick-up artist. up, who both his students and their teachers seek advice on how to treat and score women. Sounds great right? The best part of this is that it is true and is documented in Neil Strauss’s excellent book, “The Game: Penetrating the Secret Society of Pick-Up Artists.”

If you’ve ever heard of Neil Strauss, this book offers a fascinating account of what turned him into Syle, his pseudonym for the seduction society. And if you’ve never heard of him, this book will make you WANT to know who he is. Not only does it offer a fascinating look at the many methods of getting women’s attention – and phone numbers and panties – but it also describes in detail the wacky characters that make up this “pick-up artist society.”

What’s great about this book, unlike all the others for horny guys who want to get laid, is the way it’s organized. It is not a lesson-by-lesson tome detailing “forbidden” methods of “tricking” women into going to bed with you. Actually, it’s more of a man’s personal account of the frustrations and victories of dealing with women. You learn your lessons, as Strauss learns his. It is a description of a man’s journey from losing master to seducing master. And you can benefit from the knowledge Strauss shares, first-hand, in exciting detail.

It all starts with Strauss’s account of growing up “far from attractive” and far from being satisfied with his sex life. All it took to change that was a call from a book publisher, asking Strauss to take the mysterious “Layguide” that existed on the Internet and turn it into a “coherent instruction book.” Though hesitant at first, Strauss is curious, and you, the reader, are curious as well. As he investigates this mosaic of notes on how to be busy, he finds himself delving into a world that he, or most people, barely knew existed … and becomes one of the most important parts of it. As he writes, “If the guide hadn’t crossed my path, I, like most men, would never have evolved my way of thinking about the opposite sex.” But thanks to finding out, Style began his journey of transformation from a single loser to a man in command of thousands for his seduction advice and services.

Along the way, discover a host of crazy characters and all of their “unique” methods (to say the least!): The Mystery and the Mystery Method; Tyler Durden and Papa, and Real Social Dynamics; David DeAngelo and Double Your Dating; Ross Jeffries and neurolinguistic programming. There are also a variety of guys with interesting pseudonyms of their own: Thundercat, Jlaix, Herbal, Jughead. It’s hard not to laugh when you come across some of these wacky characters and their cool methods of creating attraction: 3-second ATC, go “kino”, deny. It is quite fun to hear what these methods are; learning about what are revealed by the various characters makes the book often hysterical.

What I find best about “The Game” is the way it is described as a journey. As I said before in my posts, life really is a journey, and so is the whole process of becoming a better lover. The way Style teaches us his lessons is not academic lessons, point by point. It’s describing his growth and allowing you to grow (and laugh and moan) with him. If you want to learn what IOI, 3-sets, negs, ATC and peacocking are, you don’t have to play “The Game”. Just read it!
