Reiki for neck and shoulder pain

The way I approach neck and shoulder pain in my clients is to start with the assumption that it is caused by overthinking and can be alleviated by giving the client an option for relaxation of the body and calm of the mind.

My experience includes several years of Buddhist mindfulness meditation that I have adapted into the session I describe below.

Begin by asking your client to focus on their inhalation and exhalation by counting each cycle. The next stage is to place your hands on the client’s shoulders and begin to channel the Reiki energy into the area physically in the shoulder area, but energetically described as the throat chakra. This can take a couple of minutes, after which I move one of my hands towards the client’s chest area and begin to channel energy into the heart chakra in the center of the chest.

At each stage, I observe the breathing and posture of my clients to measure the feedback from the session and adjust my energy flow or the position of my hands (on the body if it is a man, or about an inch from the chest if the client she is a woman.

After a couple of minutes at chest level, I begin to channel energy into the third eye area at the front of the head and at the back of the head (base of the skull) for a couple more moments.

If necessary, I will move back to the neck and shoulders to end the healing session or briefly hold each of my clients’ hands and guide their attention back to the real world by once again requesting that they focus on their inhalation and exhalation.

I approach these sessions informally, but each includes a request for honest feedback. When I meet someone who wants to have a session with me, I make it clear that results are not guaranteed, although I normally expect people to get at least a good night’s sleep (the feedback from these informal 10 minute sessions so far depends on six weeks of better quality sleep.
