Molokini Crater

A crescent-shaped islet off the coast of Maui, about 40% of the edge of a quarter-million-year-old ancient volcano, offers ideal conditions for scuba diving, snuba, snorkeling and freediving in the present. The islet is a bird sanctuary and the reef below the inner ring of the islet thrives with aquatic life. Humpback whales pass by during their winter migration.

The crescent shape of the islet naturally protects divers from the waves and a fast, wicked current in the Alalakeiki Channel. People must arrive by boat and the boat must be moored at one of the moorings provided by the state of Hawaii because it is illegal to drop anchor in the coral reef. Snorkel tour boats service Molokini Crater, so you can easily book an underwater adventure trip during your Maui vacation. Expect to see sea turtles, rays, members of more than 250 species of fish, and the occasional whitetip shark during your dive in crystal clear waters.

If you really like seeing sea turtles in the water, consider going to Turtle Town on Maui. You can take a boat tour there, but maybe you should just drive to the closest public beach to Turtle Town, like Maluaka Beach, with your snorkel gear and just get in the water. Sea turtles can be seen close to shore as well as further offshore over the reef. If you want to see dolphins while you dive, go where they hang out. Drive to La Perouse Bay, south of Cape Kinau, early in the morning. You may be able to work with a snorkel gear supplier there, but get help from your hotel to confirm, if you don’t have your own gear.

You are lucky enough to be able to vacation on Maui, enjoying its breathtaking beauty on land and in the crystal blue water. Take a moment to thank God for his grace in his life. Nothing in your world and none of the precious moments of your life came to you by accident. Do not assume that you made joy by your own hand. Show appreciation to someone who cares for you and just wants you to be closer to them. For all the devotion you show to God, he says it will make you greater.
