How to make money writing and selling books

If you want to work from home writing books, then it’s important that you know how to do it. And you have to do it fast. Writing is a numbers game, which means the more books you write, the more you can earn.

And more importantly, you need to market your books to the right people at the right time. There is a saying that it is easier to sell a mediocre product with great marketing than it is to sell a great product with mediocre marketing. So get your marketing right, and you can increase your sales without any extra work.

But how do you do it? How do you know what to write and who to sell it to?

Well, let’s start with the three most important things.

Keep writing. You can’t work as a self-published author if you don’t write. You need to write books and lots of them. And not only that, the way to sell more books is to write a series. It doesn’t matter if you’re writing fiction or nonfiction, if it’s a series of books and you’ve advertised your other books on the back of each book, then readers looking for another book are likely to buy one from you.

Presell your books. As you write your books, start marketing as you go. Tell your email list or blog readers what you’re working on, when it will be published, and how they can reserve a copy or get a discounted copy. This helps not only pre-sell your book so you have customers waiting to buy it before you’ve even finished it, but it keeps you on a deadline so you have to keep writing to stay on schedule and not disappoint your readers.

Post fast. They say that money likes speed. So if you’ve never published before, or want to do it quickly, use Amazon’s Kindle Direct Publishing. It’s free to use, has book cover template software (also free of charge), and you can set up your book as a print POD book, as well as an eBook if you’d like. And because Amazon is good at marketing, when someone sees one version of your book, it will also show them the other.

At first, self-publishing can seem a bit daunting before you try it. But as you do it, you’ll realize how easy it is. And once you’ve written and published a book or two, and have your systems in place, it will become faster and easier for you to write and publish more books.

That’s the beauty of doing something over and over again. It becomes a habit and therefore it becomes easier to do and faster at the same time because you no longer have to think about every little step in the process, thus it becomes more automatic.

And the best thing about this simple, automated system is that it gives you more time to write your next book.
