Dressing the exterior of your home with the principles of Feng Shui

There is a feng shui theory behind the best color for your home’s exterior and it is based in part on the orientation of the home. Each house has an orientation; It is oriented towards a certain direction that can be defined with a compass. There are eight basic directions: north, south, east, west, northeast, southeast, southwest, and northwest.

The actual character or strength of a house is determined by its “seating direction”, which can be described as the rear of the house. A house that faces north will “sit” in the south. If you, as a person, are facing east, then your back is to the west, so it is the same notion with houses.

When you know which is the sitting side of your house, that direction is associated with a complementary element and colors. Below is a chart that defines a house based on its sitting side. You just have to remember that the seat is almost always the opposite of the opposite side because almost all houses have parallel front and back walls.

Below is a list of the sitting side of a home and the ideal exterior colors for it:

North (water): supporting or matching blue, white or gray

Northeast (Earth): beige, supporting or matching reddish tones

East (wood): solidarity or matching or blue

Southeast (wood): supporting or matching greens or blues

South (fire): supporting or matching red or green

Southwest (Earth): Supporting or matching yellow, brown or red

West (metal): supporting or matching white, gray, yellow or brown

Northwest (metal): white, gray, yellow, brown support or matching

The theory is that you can use an exterior color that matches the type of house or a color that reinforces the element associated with it. For example, a house to the north is a “water” type house and any shade of blue is water. So that would be a stable color for the exterior. But in the cycle of the elements, metal strengthens water, so metal colors like white and gray are also complementary for that type of house.

When one type of house has a supporting exterior color, it makes the house stronger, cozier, and thus the occupants can feel healthier and more productive.

To use the same theory of the five elements, if the exterior color of a house has a dominating or debilitating effect, then the occupants will feel exhausted or the house can demand much of their energy and resources, like the house we call the ” Pit money “because the occupants can not save.

Below is a chart showing the same seating directions, but the color or colors that would have a dominant effect on that type of home and therefore do not recommended.

House sits north / Noxious exterior colors = yellow or brown

The house is to the northeast / Harmful colors = greens

The house sits to the east / Harmful colors = white or gray

The house is in the southeast / Harmful colors = white or gray

The house is to the south / Noxious colors = blue

The house is in the southwest / Harmful colors = green

The house sits to the west / Harmful colors = Red hues

The house is in the northwest / Harmful colors = Red tones.
