1. Fish oil. Fish oil is a rich source of omega-3 fatty acids, and it is these fatty acids that can help you get there. Omega-3 fatty acids can help improve your mood and your overall outlook, helping you feel better again sooner.

While you can eat salmon, flaxseed, and walnuts to get their omega-3 fatty acids, most people simply don’t get enough of these foods on a daily basis to reap the benefits.

2. Exercise. Next, consider getting some exercise. A brisk walk, a session at the gym, or playing your favorite team sport are great ways to combat depression. Exercise causes the release of positive endorphins that will make you feel good, which will improve your mood.

Remember that any activity counts here. Don’t think it has to be incredibly intense or long-lasting to make a difference.

3. Social interaction. Last but not least, consider social interaction. While getting together with friends may be the last thing on your mind right now, it’s something you should strive for.

Those who have strong connections with others enjoy some protection against feelings of depression and can also recover faster from a difficult day. So call a friend or see a family member you haven’t seen in a while. It may be just what you need.
