Cheating doesn’t have to be the end of your engagement

While cheating may give you good reason to have doubts about the marriage, it doesn’t have to be the end for both of you. Cheating before marriage is quite common, as two people face a life-long and sometimes terrifying commitment to each other.

It is the way you react to cheating that will have a profound impact on your chances of marriage. Whether you were the one who did the action or you were tricked, both are affected by the act.

The problem with cheating while engaged is that it could mean a lot of different things or it could mean nothing more than pre-wedding nervousness. Regardless of the reason, this is an important test for the relationship to pass if there is any hope for a happy and successful marriage on the horizon.

What can cheating mean for your engagement?

1) That there are obstacles in the way in all relationships. This is a fairly straightforward example of what it might mean to cheat during your engagement. There are no perfect marriages or relationships, no matter how much many other couples like to fake it. As your wedding approaches, stress increases, time demands increase, and there isn’t much time to process the wide range of emotions that seem to be dominating. In other words, it’s a good time for the temptation of infidelity to take over everything else for a while.

2) That you or your fiancé are enjoying one last “hooray” before getting started on the matter of marriage. That’s what bachelor parties are all about for many men (and women start having them more often, too). It’s that last chance to sew some wild oats before you take your vows and it has nothing to do with marriage or what any of you think marriage should be.

3) That cold feet are taking advantage for the moment. Many people in this situation experience a moment of coldness before the big day arrives. A common response is cheating. They cheat once and realize that the grass really isn’t greener elsewhere and that they want to move on with the marriage after all.

4) That there is a problem and that it is better to solve it now than after you have made your vows in front of friends, family and anyone else who is witnessing. The hard part is deciding which is the case for the two of you.
